Tottenham vs Manchester United LIVE early Man Utd team news and match updates - Manchester Evening News

Video LoadingVideo UnavailableManchester United are finally back in action. It has been more than three months since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men last played a competitive fixture, with the Premier League suspended in March and then rescheduled for the summer because of the coronavirus pandemic. So tonight United take on Tottenham Hotspur (kick-off at 8.15pm), managed by former Old Trafford boss Jose Mourinho, in a Friday night game behind closed doors in North London. Spurs will have star men Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in their side for the contest, as well as Moussa Sissoko, while United have Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford available again after injuries. United defensive duo Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are out with injuries, but Solskjaer otherwise has a fully fit squad to choose from as his team look to go level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea with a win. There are signs outside the stadium urging fans to stay away and the message has got through with just under three hours to go until kick-off.Spurs staff were polite and helpful upon arrival and the stadium, even just from the outside is plush and impressive. A number of broadcasters are already here and this particular car park is already quite full. It feels like a game taking place in the Twilight Zone but it is still a big game.General view outside the Tottenham Hotspur stadium (Image: Getty Images)17:34Tyrone MarshallAway team boost for United? One of the fascinating sub-plots tonight will be seeing how the two teams cope with an empty stadium. Theres been a lot of talk about how its benefited away teams in the Bundesliga, but on Wednesday night the home sides in the two Premier League games were the better teams in both of their games. The pressure is certainly on Tottenham, who need the result and will have to get it without their own fans, but they did play a friendly here last weekend against Norwich, so they already have an idea about how protocols are working in this ground and how this cavernous stadium feels when empty, with that huge stand behind the goal now standing sadly deserted, so maybe that will give them some kind of edge?17:24Dominic BoothCast your predictionAre you feeling confident ahead of tonights game, United fans?17:14Amie WilsonPundits' predictionsMany pundits believe tonights game will be a close-run thing... or is it just because neither United nor Spurs have played competitively for three months?Charlie Nicholas has predicted a 1-1 draw:It is a cracker. This always falls into the category of a big game, especially with Jose Mourinho facing his old club once again. Everybody is jumping on the Manchester United bandwagon with the potential link-up of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes. They are waiting for United to come to life.I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has done a great job considering the pressure he was under, but they are no closer to the top two, and I dont see them making the top four.Tottenham needed a rest as they were in meltdown. I look at Harry Kane who will be back for them, and that is a huge boost. That being said, Jose will not know what his best defence is but I imagine he will have been working hard on it - there is no Dele Alli for Tottenham too.A lack of fans will take an edge off it for the players. It will be 30 minutes or so that is needed to get going for these two, but I cannot separate them.Heres what the other pundits are predicting about Tottenham vs Man UnitedOle Gunnar Solskjaer will lock horns with Jose Mourinho again (Image: 2019 AMA Sports Photo Agency)17:01Dominic BoothUnited's midfield competitionTheres no doubt that the make-up of the Manchester United midfield presents Solskjaer with the biggest dilemma when picking his team tonight.Scott McTominay, Fred, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Bruno Fernandes are all staking a claim to start. 16:52Match factsManchester United are currently on an 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions, winning eight and drawing three.
